It wasn’t long ago when men made special trips to the barber to receive a comfortable, professional shave.  Putting a razor sharp blade to your face on a regular basis is not exactly the safest of practices.

The Blades

This Panasonic model has a pivoting triple-blade head made up of two foils and a center slit blade. (Foils are those long, thin metal covers with holes. They’re folded over the blades, and when stubble enters a hole, the blades lop it off). All three heads ‘float,’ or move up and down or back and forth as you shave. Why is this important? Because no one has a flat face, flat neck or flat head. There’s even a Pivot Action Selector that lets you tweak just the way you want the blades to pivot based on the individual contours of your face, and your personal preferences.

The blade system has been given a nanotech designation. What’s nano?  Basically it means that the shaver uses small parts to do a big job and that the unit was designed specifically to allow those small parts to work perfectly. Furthermore, these nanotech blades are positioned at a 30˚ angle, which experts say is a terrific angle for dependable and meticulous shaving.

Okay, so the blade system is good. But without a good motor to drive it, you might as well go back to a straight razor on a rock with a pan. The motor in the ES8109S is a patented high-speed linear motor that spins at 13,000 rotations per minutes. That’s pretty fast. It simply means a closer, more precise shave.

Battery Powered

It is powered by a rechargeable battery that has proven to last for more than a dozen shaves (14 to be exact) before you need to recharge. Just make sure you charge it when you have to, because you can’t use it with a power cord.

Wet/Dry

One of the greatest advantages of modern electronic shaving is that they figured out how to make it work in the shower (if you do, you should use a little gel or lather on your face), and how to build a water-based cleaning system right into the shaver.

Self-Cleaning

That cleaning system I mentioned is called HydraClean. It’s a water-infused process that automatically removes all debris from the heads. The system also uses heat to dry the shaver quickly to eliminate the possibility of corrosion or bacteria buildup and to get it ready for the next shave.

Other Features

For the mustache and sideburn crowd, it comes with a durable pop-up trimmer, and there’s an easy-to-read LCD display which lets you know exactly how much power is left in the batteries. It also reminds you to do a little extra blade-cleaning on your own, to keep it in tip-top shape.
